In Ohio, there are protections in place for workers. You cannot be fired for filing or pursuing a workers’ compensation claim.

Workers’ compensation is essentially a no-fault insurance system. The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation acts as the insurance provider in most cases. Most employers in Ohio are small enough that they pay into the state insurance system, and nearly every employer is required to carry workers’ compensation coverage—with only a few exceptions.

When an employee is injured at work—even if the injury is the result of their own mistake or negligence—they are typically covered. The goal of workers’ compensation is to ensure injured workers receive the treatment they need, recover, and return to work. It also provides wage replacement benefits while they are unable to work.
